Santa Margherita..The presence of a Roman settlement has not been definitely proven. The burgh, known asPescino, was devastated by Rothari in 641 and by the Saracens in the 10th century. Later it was a fief of the Fieschi family until 1229, when it was acquired by the Republic of Genoa. In 1432 it was attacked by the fleet of Venice and in 1549, together by Rapallo, by that of Turgut. In 1813, under the Napoleonic domination, the two burghs of Pescino and Corte were unified as Porto Napoleone. Two years later it was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia as the commune of Santa Margherita Ligure. In 1861 it became part of the newly unified Kingdom of Italy. Connected by rail in the 20th century, Santa Margherita became a renowned tourist resort afterWorld War II.

This is a tour dedicated to all of customers are going to visit the famous cave of Carrara’s marble. The Apuan Alps (Alpi Apuane) are a mountain range in northern TuscanyItaly. The name derives from the Apuani Ligures tribe that lived there in ancient times. The mountain range is known for its Carrara marble.The city contains a gate built in a former bog, a historical artifact that relates to strategic planning by the ancient Roman army. In Italian Forte dei Marmi means “Fort of the marbles”. The town takes its name from the fortress that rises in the middle of the main square, built under Grand Duke Peter Leopold, who was to become Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor, in 1788. The fortress was built to defend the coast from outer attacks, but in the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century it became the place where the marble quarried from the Alpi Apuane (they are the same mountains of the famous marble of Carrara) was stocked before being sent to the pier for shipping.
